A Pinto player revs up for a hard fastball.
In Morgan Hill there was no shortage of competitive baseball through June and July. Morgan Hill PONY Baseball's 2018 All-Star talent proved that hard work, focus, and dedication to practice yields success.
This year MHPB entered ten different teams into the PONY All-Star tournament system, and 6 of them proceeded to the second level.
The Shetland 6U team steamrolled its way through the Section Tournament at Britton Middle School winning both games in a sweep of Blossom Valley. They proceeded to the NorCal West World Series (Coast Region) where the team advanced through six grinding games of bracket baseball and finally lost in the championship to Marina 14-7.
Morgan Hill PONY’s Pinto league turned out three teams of skilled All-Star players in the Pinto Section Tournament at Britton. Despite playing well, the MHPB #3 and #2 teams finished the tournament 0-2 and 2-2 respectively. MHPB #1 finished undefeated and was crowned champion of the Morgan Hill tournament with a 3-0 record and a stunning victory over South San Francisco in the final round. Team #1 moved on to the NorCal Pinto Super Regional in Modesto. Despite its talent, team #1 was knocked out of the tournament in two games.
The Mustang 9U All-Stars participated in a two team showdown in the Section Tournament in Morgan Hill, taking the series 2-1 against Los Altos/Mountain View. Advancing to the NorCal Super Region at Bel Passi (Modesto) was an exciting challenge. The 9Us lost the first game but bounced back, winning the second game against Pittsburg. Vacaville had a strong showing in game 3, defeating the MHPB 9U team.
The 10U Mustang team played very well. In Morgan Hill’s Section Tournament the team placed runner up, ending the tournament with a .500 record after four games. However, their most exciting achievement was in the NorCal Super Regional in Ceres. Finishing the tournament with a 3-2 record, the 10U All-Stars placed third, losing 5-4 against Brentwood just before the championship game.
The 11U Bronco team successfully took the Section Tournament, defeating Los Altos/Mountain View in 2 out of 3 games. In the NorCal Super Regional Tournament in Modesto, the 11U team took third place, losing to Bel Passi 7-5 just before the championship game.
Morgan Hill’s Bronco 12U All-Stars played at PAL Stadium in the Regional Tournament and took third place with a 1-2 record. In Seaside they posted a 0-2 record in the NorCal Super Region Tournament against the teams from Carmel and Marina.
The Pony 14U team competed in the Pony Regional Tournament in Watsonville losing both games played.
For the first time in many years, Morgan Hill fielded a Colt team in the All-Star tournament. The Colt 16U team competed and placed third in the Regional Tournament at PAL stadium, finishing 2-2.
All-Star baseball is highly competitive. Congratulations to the players who committed half their summer to playing in the tournaments. We are proud of the effort put forth by our players and the commitment of their families who shuttled them to games near and far, often on impromptu scheduling. Their hard-work and dedication is proof that Morgan Hill has some great baseball players at all levels.
