To further develop the skills of our young players, MHPB offers a Winterball program. The season normally begins the first Saturday after Labor Day and ends in mid-November. Winterball is designed to provide a non-competitive, instructional league in which more time is spent developing individual skills. It also provides an opportunity for players advancing to the next division, to become accustomed to the field dimensions, rules, and speed of the game they will face the next spring. Winterball involves Shetland through Pony divisions.

Winter ball Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. How can I register my child for winter ball?

A1. Fill out the winter ball registration form and mail it to the specified address on the form.

NOTE: Winterball forms will be available shortly. We will post an announcement when they are ready.

Q2. What Pony division should I register my child in for winter ball?

A2.  You should register your child in the same division for winter ball that they will play in the following spring.  The division they will play in next spring depends on your child’s age as of April 30 of the following year.  For example if your child is currently 8 but will turn 9  before May 1 then they will play Mustang in the spring and should sign up for Mustang for winter ball as well.  The division ages are:

5-6       Shetland

7-8       Pinto

9-10     Mustang

11-12   Bronco

13-14   Pony

Q3. What is the schedule for winter ball?

A3. Winter ball starts typically the first Saturday following labor day and typically ends on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Q4. If I'm registering my child late how do I find out when the next Saturday practice will be?

A4. Call one of the Division Representatives in the division you are registering your child.  The DR phone numbers can be found on the board page.

Q5. Where do the winter ball practices and scrimmage games take place?

A5. The winter ball practices and scrimmage games are at the following fields:

Shetland – Shetland field at Burnett Elementary School

Pinto – Pinto field at Burnett Elementary School

Mustang – Mustang 2 field at Britton Middle School (the field in the front of the school next to the tennis courts along Monterey Rd)

Bronco – Bronco field at Burnett Elementary School

Pony – Pony field at El Toro Elementary School

Q6. Do all the winter ball practices and scrimmage games take place on Saturdays?

A6. Yes for most divisions.  The Pony division will have some mid-week practices.

Q7. What is the format for the winter ball activities this year?

A7.  The focus is to make winter ball more of an instructional clinic format with occasional scrimmage games.  There will not be teams that the players are assigned to.  Each player will go to different drill stations where they will be instructed on various baseball skill fundamentals appropriate to the division they are registered in.

Q8. How can I help with Winterball?

A8. Check with the Player Agent and DRs of the various divisions to see if they need additional coaching help.  Helping prepare the fields is always a necessity.
