Bronco
Blossom Valley competition
Each Saturday, the Bronco teams have been competing with
teams from South Bay in the Blossom Valley Fall League. We
appreciate the welcome we have received from Greg Schlick
and the Blossom Valley coaches. The games have been a fun
combination of competitive baseball and instructional
coaching. Our teams had a mixture of experienced players and
new players, so coaching had to be versatile to meet
everyone's needs. Our teams met a range of skill levels
through the season, so the players were able to have winning
experiences as well as play against teams performing at
In September and October,
the teams used a weekly practice on Burnett to prepare for
the Saturday games. Having the players' dads come out to
help with team drills made a huge difference for teaching
the new players. Without their help, the coaches would not
have had a chance for some crucial one-on-one skill coaching
with inexperienced players.
We have been able to
provide a range of experiences to help these players "get to
the next level". Pitchers are getting live game experience
with umpires, balks, the dropped third strike rule, and the
infield fly rule. The newer players are learning batting,
fielding and throwing techniques, and defensive situations.
Everyone gets to bat and learn new positions on the field.
