Fee Increase for Spring 2012

Many of you have asked about the fee increase for the Spring 2012 baseball season.  The MHPB Board wanted to share some of the financial information to you in order to help you better understand the finances of the league and how important fundraising and volunteering is to offsetting the costs to run the league.

The fees we charge are one of the lowest for team sports.  However, the league fee alone does not cover the costs to run the league.  It currently costs MHPB $240 per player for Spring ball.  This includes the uniforms, field rental and maintenance, insurance, umpires, team photo's, trophies and many other expenses.  The average fee for Spring 2011 was $140, well below the cost per player.  Proceeds from the snack shack, sponsors, MHPB clothing sales and fundraisers are needed to bridge the gap.  In the past, we had sold candy as one of our fundraisers.  We had a "buy out" of $25 which allowed the families to not participate in the sale of the candy, but still contribute to the fundraising goals.  The overwhelming parent response to the candy fundraiser was to not have it, and raise the fees since many people already paid the "opt out" fee.

As a Board, we listened to your suggestions and have eliminated the sale of candy this year and increased the fee to offset the loss of this fundraiser.  The fundraisers and volunteer efforts are needed in order to keep the league fees down.  We will still have several fundraisers during the year, including the popular SJ Giants game and a dinner dance.

I hope this information helps you better understand the finances of the league and the importance of our fundraising efforts and need for volunteers.

If you have any questions, please give me a call.
